2020 is already here, if you can believe it!
I feel like the new year snuck up on me super quick. Wasn’t it just June yesterday? Where did Christmas go? I don’t think I’ve even had enough time to come up with my New Year’s resolutions yet!
The Soundtrack of the Past Year
Before we leave 2019 in the dust, let’s take a look at some of the most popular songs that fueled the year and gave us a soundtrack to live by.
Lil Nas X definitely had a great year thanks to his hit “Old Town Road” featuring Billy Ray Cyrus. I mean, that song might as well be the official anthem of the whole year. It even ruled the Billboard Hot 100 for an unbelievable total of 19 weeks, making it the longest-leading #1 single in Hot 100 history.
But other songs stand out, like Billie Eilish’s “Bad Guy,” Post Malone’s collab with Swae Lee titled “Sunflower,” and Lizzo’s “Truth Hurts.” Really, there’s just so many hits, that it’s impossible to name them all.
Billboard’s Year-End Hot 100 Chart
All these songs spent time on the Billboard Hot 100, which is the music industry standard record chart in the U.S. for songs. Rankings are based on sales, radio play, and online streaming.
At the end of each year, Billboard compiles a year-end Hot 100 chart, basically giving us a definitive who’s who of popularity for the whole year.
I was less than surprised to find “Old Town Road” in the #1 spot, of course.
However, I know that not everyone shares the same taste in music. Personally, if I had to pick a #1 song for 2019, Ariana Grande’s “7 Rings” would probably be my top choice.
Below, you’ll find the top 15 songs from Billboard’s year-end edition of the Top 100. But if you had to pick just one, which would be your #1 for the year 2019?
