Battle of the Bots: Who Would Win in a Robot Deathmatch?

Robots have been a huge part of pop culture over the past couple of decades. We see them in movies and on TV and most of the time we really think nothing of it.

Robots on the Television

There are bots with advanced AI like those found in HBO’s Westworld and there those that are more single task-oriented – like Rick and Morty’s Butter Robot. (Though it’s unclear if the latter might have deeper thoughts, considering how it reacts to learning its purpose.)

Other cartoon robots include Futurama’s scheming industrial robot Bender, and, of course Rosie from The Jetsons.

Humanoid robots and androids are certainly a mainstay of sci-fi TV – and even some sitcoms. Who could forget Vicki (aka V.I.C.I.), the 10-year-old android girl from the ‘80s show Small Wonder? (Ok, probably a lot of people, but we still love her.)

There’s also Data from Star Trek: The Next Generation, Number Six and Number Eight from Battlestar Galactica, and Cameron from Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles.

Robots in the Movies

The movies have brought us even more awesome robots – like C-3PO and R2D2, for starters. There’s also Wall-E and Eve from the 2008 Pixar flick Wall-E and the loveable Iron Giant (talk about a tearjerker).

Of course, the silver screen also brought us the frightening HAL 9000 and various iterations of the Terminator. But robots come in all different shapes, sizes, levels of awareness, and ruthlessness.

For some good ol’ ‘80s nostalgia, perhaps it’s time to re-watch Johnny 5 in the 1986 sci-fi comedy Short Circuit. Or, if you’re feeling a bit more serious, there’s always the original Blade Runner which is certainly full of androids (including the iconic Roy Batty – RIP Rutger Hauer).

To the Death

Of course, the real question is how would these robots fare in a 1 vs. 1? That’s where you come in. Tell us who you think would win if these machines squared off in the ring.
